The iPod Touch.. Best thing since sliced bread. March 5, 2010 Mo 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dont be fooled by its size, this small device packs a punch... and a big one. Listening to music, watching videos, playing games and internet are just a few of the things you can have fun with on an iPod Touch.
The App Store is HUGE boasting over 140,000 apps! There's definitely something for everyone. The best thing about the App Store is the fact that most apps are free, whether they're full games or even just trials. There's a huge variety.
I recieved mine just a few months back, and i'm on it everyday. Whilst my music library isn't huge, i've managed to fill up around 15GB of the allowed 29GB. (Not supplied with 32GB, the spare 3GB is used by Apple.) By far, the biggest segment of my iPod is my apps. I have over 7GB of them!
Whilst most people buy an iPod Touch for its apps, listening to music and watching videos couldnt be any better. On a 3.5-inch, multi-touch operated screen, the clarity of videos is like eye candy. Also, with the included microphone in the 3rd Gen models, it makes listening and switching tracks that much easier. All you have to do is speak into the microphone and speak "Next Track." It's THAT simple.
It's easy to see why Apple are the leading brand in the music market. However, the iPod Touch does have it's downfalls.
- Battery Life
If you're wanting to listen to music, your battery will last around 30 hours, with the screen turned off.
However, if you're wanting to play games or watch video, don't expect anything above 4 hours.
The battery life is TERRIBLE. For me, watching video and playing games are a must. This means i have to carry a charger everywhere i go. It's not a big deal, but it definitely needs improving.
- The Back
The back of the iPod just scratches too easily. Its a scratch magnet. If you're like me, and want to keep it as clean as possible, buy a case beforehand. That way, when you recieve it, you can slip it straight into it.
- Shuffle Feature
I find this extremely annoying. Having to shake the iPod everytime i want to skip a track in shuffle mode is just plain nonsense.
Further note about Battery Life;
When i ordered my iPod Touch, the battery life wasn't even lasting 2 hours. I decided to send it back to Amazon for a replacement. Amazon couldnt have been anymore helpful. Their customer service is SUPERB. The steps are extremely easy to follow, and the customer service is up there with the best. When i ordered my iPod Touch, i chose FREE super saver delivery. I sent it back to Amazon on a Monday via Royal Mail 1st class. Amazon sent me an email on Tuesday telling me that they'd sent a replacement via 1st class (i ordered free super saver delivery) AND they would refund my costs for sending it back to them. I recieved the replacement on Wednesday.
Bravo Amazon.
So, in a nutshell. The iPod Touch is one of the best gadgets out there. You need one. It stands way above every other MP3 player out there. Apple have made the user interface amazingly easy to use and get to grips with. With the ever-growing app store, you'll never be bored.
Quite simply the best March 4, 2010 Andrew Phillips (Wales) I have had ipods since the first incarnation and the ipod touch is quite simply amazing. Sound quality is brilliant, especially when you upgrade form the supplied earbuds. The built in speakers are good for occasional use or watching in the car but you really couldn't use them as a stand alone player (try the linx B tube with bluetooth for £10 - amazing!) Movie quality is also quite simply phenomenal! Use a programme such as Handbrake (google it, it's free) to encode video's quickly and simply at the right size!
Web browsing is very good, and I have no trouble navigating pages zooming in and out. Apps are also very good, though personally I tire of the thousands of shallow apps there are certainly many very good ones!
Storage is just right and the whole user interface and itunes are as simple as they come. Many people don't like it being so locked down but the upside is mine has never crashed or frozen etc.
Overall a fantastic bit of kit with wide support in the form of cases and accessories!
So much more than an MP3 player.... February 27, 2010 joc66 (United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using my iPod Touch since Christmas day, and I can honestly say it is one of the best presents ever. I had always turned away from Apple's music players as being over-priced compared to other things on the market, but the iPod Touch is a device in a league of its own. It plays music, podcasts, videos, etc well (especially when you use your own headphones - I've got Sennheisers - and it sounds great). Navigation is a breeze using that gorgeous touch screen. Yes, you do need to use iTunes to get your music onto your device (although you can also make purchases from iTunes directly from your iPod, as well as downloading podcasts etc), and it can be a bit annoying, but it is worth putting up with it for the ease of use you get on the iPod itself.
Aside from all its media abilities however (what no flash video though - come on Apple!), the Touch is a personal organiser (great calendar you can sync with a variety of calendars online or on your pc), photo album, email client, web-browser, games machine, and so much more. You can even use it to make phone calls if you install the Skype app and use the included earphones with mic. The App store has something for everyone and some of the really good stuff is free. There is even a Kindle app from Amazon which means you can try out the Kindle experience. I've read a couple of e-books using the Kindle app and it has been surprisingly pleasant.
The build quality is, as I'm told you can expect from Apple, excellent. It feels like a sturdy device, although the shiny silver back is rather prone to scratches spoiling its gleaming wonderousness, so you might want to buy a case to put on the minute you get your iPod home. The wifi connection which is an integral part of many of the available apps works very well and has a good range and the included Safari browser is a joy to use with its multi-touch controls. Incidentally, it can connect to the internet using one of 3's Mifi devices 3 Mobile Wi-Fi Pre-pay Wireless Modem so that could give an added dimension to the usability of this device away from a wireless router attached to a telephone line.
The iPod Touch has been described as an iPhone without the phone bit but it isn't. It's less than that as it also lacks a camera, GPS, and the hefty monthly subscription you'll need to pay to get an iPhone. However, if you've already got a reasonable phone/camera/satnav, you can't afford an iPhone and you want to enjoy the uniqueness of the App store (yes, I know there are other app stores, but Apple's so far at least, is the biggest and the best), then the iPod Touch is definitely worth considering.

Don't make the same mistake I made. I bought the 8GB model and found myself running out of space so quickly, so I splurged and bought the 32GB model!
